Vucic on Serbian-Croatian relations: We must understand that we will survive only if we don't fight each other!

Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic assessed before his visit to Croatia that Croats and Serbs have no conflict interests in the future, and proposed a memorandum in six months to discuss the topics of the past.

In his interview with the Zagreb Globus, which only published some parts of the interview, spoke about concrete proposals for the improvement of Croatian-Serbian relations which he will bring out to the Croatian president.

When it comes to the traumatic topics regarding the World War II and the war in the nineties, which cause more tension in relationships between Croatia and Serbia, Glopus notes, it would be best for both sides to refrain from discussing them for some time.

- Let's agree that we won't speak about that in the next six months, about this and that, or to try to hear each other every time and to reduce tensions, both of us. Around 4th August and around some other - Vucic said.

He believes that the conclusion of his talks with Croatian President Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic should be: we agree that we did not agree on anything about the past, but let's try to better understand each other in the coming period.

The Serbian president responded to the Globus' question as to whether Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic would accept his proposal on a moratorium on topics from the past.

President Vucic said that he sees the future of Servs and Croats on intensifying of cooperation and mutual better understanding:

- Serbs and Croats are small in numbers. Serbs are small, and Croats are not much bigger. Both of us must understand that we will survive only if we don't fight. I am telling you now: Serbs and Croats will work together more in the future, but before we start anything, we will show that we are a bit smarter - Vucic said for the Croatian newspaper before the official visit to Croatia, in the middle of February.

- Serbs and Croats have a lot of conflict around past. Serbs and Croats don't have conflicts around future - explained the Serbian president his view on the relations of two countries.

- Until recently, I had thought that we only saw differently what happened 23, 25 or 27 years ago, but now, after our exhibit in the concentration camp Jasenovac, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, it became clear that we see things differently that happened 70 years ago - Vucic said.

But, he said that the conflicts are about the past.

- I think that we should get out of it by talking, to see if there are any talks about the future. And if you analyze that in a serious way, you will understand that there are no problems. Where are the interests of Serbs and Croats colliding in the future? I can say that they won't - Vucic concluded.

According to Globus, the President of Serbia also spoke about the issue of missing persons in the war, the exhibition of the Jasenovac camp at the UN headquarters in New York, the fear of the assimilation of Serbs in Croatia, and why he thinks that Croatia is stopping Serbia on its path to European Union.
