Carved into sandstone between the villages Rosomac and Slavinja on Stara mountain, only 30 kilometers from Pirot, this one of a kind place, only five meters wide and 500 long, is known as Rosomacko narrow throat, Slavinjsko throat, or simply, the Throat.
- The locals of the two villages are often arguing about the name and whose canyon it really is, so they often call it simply the Throat - the explanation from the Tourism agency in Pirot.
Its exclusivity is the very appearance of it. Between the cliffs stacked like a staircase, a powerful river breaks through and creates a flow between the limestone, leaving visitors breathless. At the top of the wall along the left edge, there is a view of the entire canyon, it is possible to cross it during the summer, but only if the river is of appropriate temperature because it is never warmer than 5 degrees.
There are four significant meanders and the few "pots" at the very exit of Rosomacko throat, whose depth is between four and seven meters, writes Novosti.
They say in tourism organization that the number of tourists is growing on Stara mountain, especially in the last few years, there are more of them who enjoy the natural beauties of this area, and this place remains relatively unknown to the wider public.
The Stara Mountain was proclaimed Nature's park in 1997. Jovan Cvijic wrote at the end of the last century that Stara mountain is the richest mountain in Serbia for its springs and waters.
A 1.000 METERS LONG WATER CURTAIN
The inaccessible terrain on Stara mountain is hiding the third of the waterfalls of Serbia. One of those is the most beautiful Tupavica. It is 25 meters tall, and it is located at 1.015 meters of altitude. It has the looks of an ice curtain during the winter, and during the summer, the waterfall is going down the sandstone cliff. It is easiest to get to it of all the waterfalls on Stara mountain, and it only an hour and a half of easy walk away from Dojkinac.
