Serbs in Zakynthos are looking at life imprisonment?

A group of high officials from Texas asked the State Department to join the case of the murder of American Bakari Henderson (22), who was beaten to death this summer on Zakynthos, writes Novosti.

Five of Serbian citizens suspected of beating the American citizen on Zakynthos are waiting to before the judge in custody in Greece. These are Milos Ilic, Nemanja Petrovic, Stefan Stojanovic, Dusan Rankovic and Milos Senic. Nenad Jovanovic and Sinisa Petrovic were released from Greek custody. Greek Jorgos Skiadopoulos and Briton of Bosnian origin Amir Omerdzic are also suspected that they are involved in this unfortunate event.

Senators John Kornin and Ted Cruz, with the congressman Michael McCaul, have sent a letter to the state secretary of USA Rex W. Tillerson in which they ask him to "use his diplomatic sources to ensure that attackers don't avoid the justice", reports CBS news.

Bakari's parents Jill and Phil Henderson met this week in private with the mentioned politicians in Washington to talk about the case against the suspects for the beating of their son. 

- It is about another country, we are not sure how the process will look like. So we hope that they understand how this process should look like and that they can help us get through that. That is why, without the pressure of the American government, frankly, we probably have nothing to hope for - said Jill Henderson.

Her husband Phil said that the family is asking for some answers:

- We really want just the truth, which we don't have. And that is why we are trying to find justice in that.

Lawyers Earl Word and Johnatan Abadi are trying to ensure that the Henderson family is heard on the court.

- There are no ways to return Bakari, but the hint people can do something like this and to get away with it increases the level of disatisfaction - Abadi said.

When asked, are they in contact with Greek government regarding this case, the spokeswoman of State Department didn't answer directly, but she said that they are "monitoring the investigation of Greek authorities". 

Allegedly, according to an earlier report, the reason for the fight was that a girl from Serbia, who was working at the club, had a drink with Henderson.

- She took a shot with the American, and one of the Serbs got annoyed and said: "B*tch, why are you drinking with black people?" He hit the American and he returns the hit. Then Henderson broke the bottle, he was prepared for a fight. He was shouting: "F*ck you, f*ck your family", and then he started running, and they chased him. One of the colleagues tried to stop them, but that was impossible. They arrived at the club "Lash". He hit his head there and fell down dead - said one of the eyewitnesses to the reporter of "Novosti".

POSSIBLE LIFE IMPRISONMENT

The suspects are charged with complicity in the murder. According to Greek law, 10 to a lifetime in prison can be determined for this criminal offense.
