EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos visited the Novi Sad railway station today and laid flowers at the place where a part of the station canopy collapsed on November 1, 2024, when 16 people died.

In a post on X, Kos stated that she went to Novi Sad to pay her respects to the 16 victims of the tragedy "that could have been prevented."

"My heart goes out to the victims and their families," she wrote.

At the end of last year an indictment was raised against 13 people, but the court sent it back, ordering the investigation into the incident to be supplemented.

Nine persons are currently in custody, and three are under house arrest, in connection with the railway station collapse.
