European Commission welcomes formation of new Serbian Government: Our goal is to support Serbia on its EU path

The European Commission today welcomed the formation of the new Government of Serbia and said it hoped that it will quickly take the necessary steps to maintain Serbia's path towards the EU.
"Our goal remains to support Serbia in progressing on its path to the EU," a spokesperson for the commission told Tanjug.
He added that "credible and tangible progress on key reforms" is needed to open the next stages in the accession process, especially in the areas of the rule of law, media freedom, fight against corruption, electoral reform and democratic institutions.
The spokesperson also stated that the EU accession process requires intensive efforts of the whole society and that it should be "an inclusive national project owned by all."
The newly elected Prime Minister of Serbia Djuro Macut took over today from Milos Vucevic, after the Serbian National Assembly elected the new cabinet on Wednesday.
