President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic has started consultations about the candidate for PM-designate, who would head the country's next government.

The meetings began today in the Palace of Serbia shortly after eight o'clock.

Vucic met with the representative of the Russian Party, Slobodan Nikolic, and after that he will also speak with the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM), Usame Zukorlic -- United for Justice - the Party of Justice and Reconciliation - Bosniaks of Sandzak, Tomislav Zigmanov - the Democratic Alliance of Croats in Vojvodina and the parliamentary group "Mi-glas iz naroda" ("We - the voice from the people").

On Monday, Vucic said that he had sent a letter to all leaders of electoral lists, and to parliamentary groups in the Serbian National Assembly, and that five or six have applied to participate in the consultations, which he said will be completed by Friday.

Vucic said that he expects the largest parliamentary group - the SNS - to inform him whether they want to form a government (that would be voted on in the Assembly) or go to snap elections.

The president said it is certain that there is no mood in that party to establish any kind of transitional government, and that he agrees with this.

On March 19, the Assembly confirmed the resignation of Prime Minister Milos Vucevic, which ended the mandate of the current government. The deadline to form a new one without dissolving the Assembly and holding elections expires on April 18 at midnight.
