Aleksandar Barbulov (38) from the village of Radojevo near Zrenjanin, northern Serbia, is one of the three victims of a horrific accident that happened on the main road between Zrenjanin and Melenci yesterday around 18:00, involving three cars and a tractor.

Radojevo residents are still shocked over the death of Aleksandar, and his friend announced that today is "a day of mourning, for their village."

"As of tonight, Radojevo is in mourning. We lost a young man. Our dear Aca (nickname for Aleksandar), rest in peace...you were a very good man," a friend wrote.

Another local woman wrote that the fire could be seen from the village, and she could not believe that it Aleksandar, who was the victim.

"I never imagined when I saw so many paramedics, police, firemen... That Aca was the one who had left us, so young... The fire was visible from the village," she wrote, and another local woman said goodbye to Aca.

"A terrible accident for the families of the unfortunate people from Radojevo... We grieve for our best man, friend a good and young man. May he rest in peace, and may the angels welcome and protect him," she wrote.

According to eyewitnesses, Aleksandar was speeding when he crashed into a tractor that was also on the road, and then two more cars came by. The force of the impact broke the tractor in half, and the woman in the passenger seat was thrown onto the road.

Milorad Brkljac happened to be the first responder and he described in detail what he saw, mentioning the people who joined him to help him save the injured.

"The scene was horrific. Without thinking, I ran there. One car was burning in a canal by the side of the road. There were two people in it. I could not approach them because the heat was unbearable," he stated and added that the tractor was on the left side of the road, cut in half.

According to Milorad, an injured woman had been in the passenger seat of the tractor, who, from the force of the impact ended, up on the road, covered in oil.

"A little farther there was another vehicle, and to the left was a tractor. From the force of the impact, it broke in half. Some 150 meters away, there was an Opel Insignia vehicle. In front of the front bumper of the vehicle on the side of the road, next to the burning car, lay an elderly woman covered in dirty gear oil," he recounted the scene, and continued:

"On the other side of the road, there was a man covered in blood in a torn NIS (company) overalls. He was disoriented. He was shouting, 'I'm fine.' He was intent on going, on foot, toward Basaid. We got him out, too. A young woman from Zrenjanin helped me. Her name is Zorica, but also there was another man. We pulled an injured woman out and dragged her about 50 meters away from the big flames. While the Zrenjanin woman was next to them, I returned to the third car. The driver was dead. Apart from the Opel Insignia, whose roof was torn off, and the tractor, the chain collision involved a burning BMW X5 and, if I'm not mistaken, a Skoda Octavia," Brkljac recounted.

The traffic accident that happened on Wednesday aound 6:20 pm on the Melenci-Basaid road killed three people and left four injured. Three passenger vehicles and a tractor were involved.

BMW driver Aleksandar Barbulov aka "Abura" (38) and his passenger D.B. (37) died on the spot when their car caught on fire, and Opel driver A.V. (32) also died. The others affected suffered light to serious injures.
