This is the deadline for new government! Brnabic: If we miss it, early parliamentary elections will be held

Ana Brnabic stated today that, unless a new government is elected by April 18 at midnight, the president is under obligation to dissolve the Assembly, and call early parliamentary elections.

The voting would take place within 45 to 60 days of the announcement, which would translate to a date in early June.

Brnabic told the press after the Assembly session where Prime Minister Milos Vucevic's resignation was confirmed that the government's mandate has officially ended with that decision.

"According to Article 132 of the Constitution, the Assembly of Serbia noted the resignation of the prime minister and with that the mandate of the Government led by Milos Vucevic officially ended. Starting tomorrow, March 20, the deadline for the formation of a new government begins," said Brnabic, who is the president of the Serbian National Assembly.

She added that, according to the Constitution, President of the Republic Aleksandar Vucic should now propose the PM-designate.

"The deadline for the formation of a new government is April 18 at midnight. Vucic should nominate the PM-designate, and they would then present the program of the new cabinet and its composition to the Assembly, after which the deputies would vote," said Brnabic.

Brnabic stressed that if this scenario does not play out and the government is not elected in the Assembly by April 18 at midnight, the president of the Republic will dissolve the Assembly and call elections.

In that case, Serbians will go to the polls 45 to 60 days from the day elections are called, which in this case would be early June.

Brnabic thanked Vucevic and the ministers for what she said was their courageous, responsible, and dedicated work in the interest of Serbia and its citizens.
