We will help Serbia strengthen nuclear safety, says International Atomic Energy Agency official

Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Hua Liu has officially informed the Directorate for Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security of the Republic of Serbia that this agency is ready to provide all necessary support to Serbian institutions in their efforts to build national capacities and advance nuclear knowledge for energy development.
It has been stated that the IAEA assistance will be implemented in various related areas, through ongoing regional and inter-regional technical support projects, including by strengthening the capacity of educational institutions for sustainable use of nuclear technology, establishing and improving the national legal framework, and supporting countries that introduce or expand nuclear energy programs in order to develop national infrastructure for the safe implementation of nuclear energy programs.
In his response to the proposal for strengthening cooperation between Serbia and the IAEA, which the Directorate sent in December of last year, Hua Liu noted that in addition to support through regional and inter-regional projects, the IAEA sees the development of a national technical support project as an important instrument in providing targeted and broad support to the development of a nuclear energy program.
