Prosecution in Belgrade orders police to urgently identify persons who attacked members of Gendarmerie

The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office (VTJ) in Belgrade has ordered the police to urgently identify the persons who last night attacked members of the Gendarmerie outside the Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) building.

There is suspicion that they committed the crime violent behavior during a sports event or public gathering under Article 344a of the Criminal Code.

There are grounds for suspicion that several persons attacked members of the Gendarmerie and hit them from behind, as they were passing by to secure the RTS building.

It was also ordered to identify the persons who attacked an on-duty plainclothes police officer, injuring his eye.

The chief public prosecutor of the VJT in Belgrade, Nenad Stefanovic, appealed to all citizens to refrain from any kind of violence and stressed that anyone who attacks peaceful participants in protests, as well as anyone who commits violence against other persons, members of the police and representatives of state bodies, will be prosecuted.
