Suspect from Ministry of Defense's Health Directorate and another VMA department chief arrested

Telegraf.rs has learned that a suspect from the Health Department of the Ministry of Defense has been arrested.

According to unofficial information, another department chief from the VMA (Military-Medical Academy clinic) has also been arrested..

Members of the Military Police arrested the suspects acting on the order of the anti-corruption department of the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade.

This happened early in the morning, and those now detained are suspected of malversations related to VMA's public procurement process, namely, bid rigging.

Jasmina Jovic Stosic arrested earlier

As part of the large-scale anti-corruption operation, ten days ago, Professor Dr. Jasmina Jovic Stosic, the head of the VMA Clinic for Emergency and Clinical Toxicology was also arrested. It is suspected that she deceived patients and charged them with more expensive tests, even though they would come for toxicology tests.

Jovic Stosic is known to the public because she often spoke to the media about alcohol poisoning, as well as about the fact that the outpatient clinic she managed had about 2,000 cases of alcohol poisoning every year. The clinic she ran is the only specialized institution in Serbia for treatment of acute poisoning, and it is open every day, 24 hours a day.

The toxicology clinic is part of the National Center for Poison Control at the Academy of Medical Sciences and provides medical services for prevention and treatment of chemical poisoning, information on the effects of poisons, providing medical assistance and eliminating the consequences of poisoning, as well as services for detection of chemical substances in biological material, water, soil, and air.

The former director of the Chamber of Nurses, Radmila Ugrica, was arrested earlier on suspicion that she took money took from a humanitarian fund intended for members of the chamber, and during the search of her apartment in Belgrade, a contract for the purchase of another one, in Greece, was found.

After the arrest, a video was released showing Ugrica being escorted by two policewomen. She had a hood on her head and was handcuffed.

The chamber's accountant was arrested along with Ugrica. She was also taken to the police station in handcuffs and a hood over her head.

The two were arrested on suspicion of transferring chamber funds to their personal accounts and obtaining illegal gains exceeding 10 million dinars.
