Higher education is on the brink of collapse: Ana Brnabic's stern warning

President of the Assembly of Serbia Ana Brnabic said today that the adoption of the Law on Higher Education will fulfill the fourth demand made by those students who are organizing blockades, and added she hoped that the faculties will return to teaching, because the blockades threaten the existence of the higher education system.
Brnabic said that we should take care of the 230,000 families in Serbia that have students among their members, and added that she hopes there will be enough responsible deans, that the protesting students will understand the seriousness of the situation and that their decisions can endanger future life opportunities of some of their colleagues.
"Let's not kid ourselves anymore. This will put the entire system of state universities in Serbia in danger, it will threaten the existence of our state system of higher education," Brnabic told TV Pink.
She added that after two additional clarifications made by the students who are protesting, the Law on Higher Education will be adopted and that this will fulfill their fourth demand, which refers to an increase in the budget set aside for the faculties.
On Tuesday, the Government of Serbia adopted the Proposal on Amendments to the Law on Higher Education and sent it to the National Assembly, and Brnabic at the time told a news conference that the legislature's session when the proposal will be considered will begin on March 4.
