An unusual case has happened in Brcko, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, when the police together with competent services found 31 children in one house, Klix.ba has learned.

The children were found along with Croatian passports, while three people have been arrested on suspicion of committing several crimes, including human trafficking.

The Brcko District Police said that their officers yesterday, under supervision of the Brcko District Prosecutor's Office and in cooperation with the Sub-Department for Social Protection and the Red Cross, found a large number of children and took them to a safe place.

"As part of the activities so far, three people have been arrested on suspicion that they committed the crimes of human trafficking, child trafficking and child neglect or abuse. The investigation into the event is ongoing. Bearing in mind the legal provisions in criminal cases against perpetrators of crimes against children and minors, as well as the universal rights of the child, we remind you of the obligation to act especially carefully, in order to avoid further harmful consequences and protect the interests of the children," a statement issued to the press said.

It has been unofficially confirmed for Klix.ba that the authorities found as many as 31 children in the house, among which some were under the age of one.

The portal's source said that the children were found along with Croatian passports, and that they were being looked after by a certain woman, most likely an Italian citizen.

What the criminal group's plan was regarding the children is now under investigation.
