Gendarmerie pushes opposition councilors and their supporters from entrance to Novi Sad Assembly building

Members of the Gendarmerie this morning pushed opposition councilors and their supporters from the entrance to the Novi Sad Assembly.
They tried to forcefully enter the building, where a session had started with election of the new mayor on the agenda.
The Gendarmerie then created a cordon in front of the entrance to the Assembly.
Previously, the participants in the protest broke through a police cordon that was securing the building and reached the very entrance.
They were shoving the police and throwing eggs at them.
The street in front of the building is blocked.
The protestors are blowing whistles and vuvuzelas all the time, and among them are opposition politicians Pavle Grbovic, Janko Veselinovic, Misa Baculov, Vladimir Stimac, Borislav Novakovic.
The Novi Sad opposition earlier called a protest in front of the City Assembly in order to express their dissatisfaction with the attempt to elect a new mayor.
The candidate was Zarko Micin, a member of the electoral list "Aleksandar Vucic - Novi Sad Tomorrow", who was elected on Monday.
In addition to the mayor, the deputy mayor and members of the City Council should also be elected during the session.
Before that, the councilors should confirm the resignation of the previous mayor, Milan Djuric, who submitted it on January 28 after students organizing blockades in the city were attacked in the night between January 27 and 28.
