So far, more than 60 countries registered to participate in EXPO 2027 in Belgrade

The director of the EXPO 2027 company, Dusan Borovcanin, said today that the specialized exhibition is a historic opportunity for Serbia to build new relationships and strengthen existing ones with other countries, and that so far more than 60 countries have registered to participate in this event.
Borovcanin told Tanjug that the dynamic of the countries applying to participate in EXPO 2027 confirms that Serbia will exceed the number of participants compared to the previous specialized exhibition in Astana, which was 117.
"From previous experiences, what the organizers of previous exhibitions have told us, it is fundamentally successful the moment we pass the number of 100. However, we have bigger ambitions than that. Bearing in mind the current position of Serbia and some partnerships that we cultivate with countries from the Non-Aligned Movement, as well as with developed countries, we are quite sure that we will go over that number," he stated.
When it was a kingdom, Serbia participated in world exhibitions for 140 years and and this is the first time in history that Serbia received the trust of 184 countries that are members of the International Bureau to organize their biggest event in 2027 in Belgrade, he added.
"There is a lot of work to be done, but it is just a great inspiration for all of us. When it comes to construction, we need to hand over the pavilions to the participating countries in December 2026. Then all the works will be finished and then the countries will work on their pavilions until May. This is a mega event that has an impact in all spheres, economic, touristic, social, political," Borovcanin told Tanjug.
Borovcanin believes that EXPO 2027 is an opportunity for Belgrade, Serbia and the entire region to allow some distant countries to explore this region both from a tourist perspective, but also from the aspect of business and new partnerships.
According to him, this is a chance for our economy and our citizens, but also in a diplomatic and political sense for Serbia to build new relations and strengthen the ones already established.
Asked who wants to stop this project at all costs, and what are the chances of them succeeding in this, Borovcanin said that it is understandable that a number of people do not know exactly what EXPO is and what effects it brings, but that he personally cannot understand the calls to cancel such an event.
Borovcanin pointed out that after the moment countries get chosen and recognized to host such an event, it has never happened that the exhibition would be canceled, which is why he believes that this will not happen to Serbia now either.
"I am sorry that such initiatives exist, but we have simply been given a unique opportunity and I think that we should all work to make it happen in the best possible way," he said.
