Ministry issues urgent statement regarding claims of lithium mining near Sabac!
The Ministry of Mining and Energy announced today that it did not issue any approval based on a request submitted by the company Edelweis Mineral Exploration for geological exploration of lithium and boron in the area of Petlovaca near the town of Sabac.
In a statement, the Ministry denied as untrue the claims published in some media in connection with the alleged research of lithium and boron in the territory of Sabac and Bogatic.
"We emphasize that the Ministry of Mining and Energy did not issue any approval based on a request submitted by the company Edelweis Mineral Exploration for geological exploration of lithium and boron in the Petlovaca area. We emphasize that in the Draft Spatial Plan of Bogatic, valid until 2035, for which the Department of Urban Planning, Communal-Housing Affairs, Building Land and Infrastructure - Development of Planning Documents of the Municipality of Bogatic issued a call for public inspection, there is no mention of plans for 'lithium and boron mining', as published in some media," the ministry states.
The claims about the "digging" of lithium and boron, the ministry added, are based on an arbitrary misinterpretation of a public document - which is available for public inspection in accordance with the legal procedure -leading the public to wrong conclusions and encouraging the spread of misinformation.
