Products grown on the land owned by the District Prison in Smederevo, a unique agricultural estate spreading on 35 hectares, have been presented for the first time at the International Fruit, Vegetable Farming and Viticulture Fair Agro Belgrade 2025.

At the fair, fruit brandies called "Aps" ("Slammer") made from apples, plums, quinces and apricots grown on the prison's land have been presented, said the website of the Ministry of Justice.

The quality of the brandy has been controlled for years by the Oenology Station in Vrsac.

The fruit is kept in a cold storage facility that has the capacity of 100 tons, equipped according to the HACPP standard. In addition to the refrigerator for fruit, there are also two chambers for vegetables, each with a capacity of 8 tons.

In the process of making the brandies, the inmates who serve in the open and semi-open part of the prison pick, wash and clean fruit, and do other work using the skills they are able to learn from instructors in this institution, the ministry added.

In the carpentry workshop, they make wooden crates for brandy, which have also been shown to the fair's visitors.
