Students' fourth demand fulfilled: Government made decision at today's session
At today's meeting, the Government of the Republic of Serbia adopted a decision providing funds in the amount of 12.01 billion dinars for higher education and student standards.
In this way, that budget is increased by 20 percent, which fulfills the fourth request made by student plenums.
"As we promised, we secured an additional 12.01 billion dinars for higher education and student standards. This will bring the total allocations from the budget for higher education and student standards to 72.06 billion dinars for 2025. In this way, financial conditions have been created for reducing tuition fees for students by 50 percent, which was exactly one of the demands made by the student plenums," said First Deputy PM and Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali.
He added that in this way the Government has fulfilled all that it can do on its part.
"The request did not specify the method of further distribution of funds, and now we need to establish dialogue in order to know how these funds will be used. Given that thanks to these funds, students will pay half the tuition they were paying, we believe that representatives of the academic community will show responsibility towards students and be open to a constructive conversation, so that the provided funds can be used as soon as possible," concluded the minister of finance.
