Former governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich, said that so-called Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti is accusing Serbs in Kosovo for various reasons and that this is his way of ethnically cleansing the Serb people, reports RTS.

"Kurti in Kosovo and Metohija is accusing the Serbs for various reasons. That's his way of the ethnic cleansing of the Serb people. Many countries rejected (Kosovo's) independence. Many countries rejected that declaration that was made in February 2008," he said.

Upon his arrival in Belgrade, Blagojevich also met with President Aleksandar Vucic.

"He reminds me a lot of President Trump. They are tall, they are good leaders and they are very dedicated to developing the economies of their countries. It's incredible what Vucic managed to achieve. I came on a direct flight from Chicago to Serbia. It is the first direct flight from a Balkan country to America," Blagojevich said.

Blagojevich believes that Trump's re-election opens up great opportunities for relations between the two countries.

"My country did a terrible thing to your country in 1999. As a member of the Democratic Party, I opposed it, but it was not enough. It's not at all different from what Russia is doing in Ukraine, my country and the hands of our leaders are also not clean, and I believe that the Serb people feel betrayed. I think that President Trump will work to improve relations between our countries," Blagojevich said.

Appearing on one of the most influential podcasts, the one hosted by Joe Rogan, Blagojevich talked about the NATO bombing of Serbia.

"Rogan is followed by many people in the United States and is very influential. And in the end, it's very important that he supported President Trump, because he eventually won. He (Rogan) is very educated and smart, but he knew nothing about the bombing in March 1999. It was a good opportunity to talk about this approach to relations between America and Serbia," said Blagojevich.
