JANAF asking for US approval to honor contract with NIS! Agreements are valid through 2026
Croatian oil pipeline operator JANAF has asked the US to allow it to fulfill its contract with the Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS), a company majority-owned by Gazprom that has been under sanctions since January 10, Bloomberg has reported.
"We have officially asked the US authorities to allow us to transport oil to NIS until the end of 2026," said the member of the JANAF Board of Directors, Vladislav Veselica.
NIS is the main client of JANAF, and the Croatian company currently has a contract with NIS to transport 10 million tons of crude oil.
The full implementation of sanctions against NIS will take place on February 27, 2025, and until then "it is possible to adjust and take measures that would enable disinvestment and support safe supply of oil to the Republic of Serbia," according to a statement published on JANAF's website on January 13.
The Croatian company stated at the time that "for now it is not possible to predict the future intensity of US sanctions against NIS and the consequences of these measures," but that they would closely monitor the developments and remain in touch with all the relevant actors.
