Defense Minister Gasic reacts to Matica Srpska incident in Novi Sad: "Banal performance and provocation"

Defense Minister Bratislav Gasic has condemned an incident when a group of opposition activists burst into the Matica Srpska building in Novi Sad during the St. Sava Academy on Sunday evening.

He assessed that it was a move that spoke of insolence, but also of deliberate intent to provoke the authorities' reaction.

"Apparently nothing is sacred to them, not even St. Sava. They are becoming more and more reckless in their attempts to cause an incident that they would later present as violence against them," Gasic stated on Instagram.

He said that the provocations were synchronized between those who carried them out and the media, which, he said, are engaged in an active anti-government campaign.

"I am sure that the vast majority of citizens are appalled by this kind of behavior. Intruding on events dedicated to culture, tradition, history, in this case a ceremonial gathering dedicated to St. Sava, in order to perform some banal performance, is worthy of contempt and condemnation," stessed Gasic.
