Vucic comments on Trump's inauguration: A historic days, not only for the US

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic has said that the inauguration of Donald Trump is a historic days, not only for the US, and that his time in power will be characterized above all by the fight against the "deep state."

"I think that his term will be characterized by three things. The first is that he will fight against what is the deep state in the United States of America, to save as much money as possible for his projects, against migrations, but also for energy development of the US, because he very correctly perceives the fact that energy is what will carry the world in the next 20 years, and that there will be many problems," Vucic told reporters in Davos.

He noted that both energy and food will be key issues in the next 20 years, and even water.

Vucic believes that Trump will look to minimize the importance of the European Commission and EU institutions, adding that he is not happy about that, and that Trump will then look to establish relations with member-countries individually. He also assessed that he will make some kind of agreement with China, "because Trump is a 'dealmaker'."

"I spoke with some of his closest people and closest associates. It seems to me that he was talking about Canada among other things because proportionally speaking, Canada has the largest surplus with the US, then the European Union, and then China. Musk needs China, and America needs China, so regardless of Marco Rubio's hard-line attitude, he will have to make a deal. And Trump is a 'dealmaker', he will make some deal with China," said Vucic.

When it comes to the EU, it has a trade surplus with the US worth 132 billion in goods alone, and almost 200 billion in goods and services.

"And Trump looks at things logically, rationally and says - why would I protect you, why would I be your umbrella, for you earn so much. You can understand it all from that point of view. Whether that is good for us, I wouldn't bet on it," Vucic said.

He also believes that Trump has assigned himself a historical role, explaining that the one who stops the war between Russia and Ukraine will have that role.

"I don't believe that he will succeed immediately, I don't think it will be easy, I don't think it will be simple, but I believe that he will do his best and that he will use different 'levers' to be able to put more pressure on Russia as well, because at this moment it is not easy to put pressure on Russia, which looks stronger on the battlefield," said Vucic.

As for Ukraine, that job is incomparably easier for Trump, but on the other hand, he has to be tied to his partners from the West, who support Ukraine, so those decisions will not be easy either, said Vucic.

"Those are the three big things, and of course always keeping the Middle East under full control. Those are the main things as I see them, but he's going to talk about it, and we're all going to analyze it. It's going to take me a few days to comprehend it all," said Vucic, adding that he cannot speak as "an analyst" anymore, which he could afford to do before, because now, Trump is the president of the US.
