PM Vucevic: Serbian Government reshuffle will be comprehensive, not cosmetic

Prime Minister of Serbia Milos Vucevic said today that the announced reconstruction of the Government will be comprehensive and that the changes will not be cosmetic but profound, as well as that the previous two and a half months were a good test for the members of the government and an indicator of who does what kind of work, and the ways they behave.

"When a government reaches its first anniversary, we will have a good picture of who did what or how they did it and what we need to do next," Vucevic told reporters in the town of Indjija, where he toured a Toyo Tires plant.

When asked about President Aleksandar Vucic announcing major changes in the government, and that new members or the departure of current ministers can be expected, Vucevic said that he had discussed the government with President Vucic several times and that he heard criticism a number of times regarding the behavior or insufficient quality of work by individual ministers.

"We spoke about the general organization of the government, and in one of the interviews I raised the question of whether we should think about a smaller cabinet, whether we should also change the Law on Government and Ministries, or is this an issue that will become relevant during the election of the next government, which is what happens most often," said Vucevic.

The prime minister added that the reconstruction of the Government will be more comprehensive than previously thought, that it will not be cosmetic and that it will apply not only to ministers, but also to state secretaries, assistant ministers, directors of public companies, organizations, institutions.

"The period behind us was turbulent, the previous two, two and a half months are a good indicator and a good test of who works and how they behave," said Vucevic.
