President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic has offered his condolences to the families of the victims of an earthquake in Tibet to President of China Xi Jinping, and to the people of China, with the message that Serbia's thoughts are with them in these difficult times.

"It is with deep sadness that I received the news of a devastating earthquake that struck Tibet and claimed many lives. In these difficult times, our thoughts are with the families of the victims and those injured, as well as with the citizens and the leadership of the People's Republic of China.

I am confident that the dedicated and brave members of rescue services will provide all the necessary help to the vulnerable population to overcome this tragedy as soon as possible, with the solidarity and support of their fellow citizens to the families of the victims.

On behalf of the Republic of Serbia and my own, I offer my deep condolences to President Xi Jinping and the friendly people of China, while I wish the injured a speedy recovery," Vucic posted on X.

The death toll from the M7.1 earthquake that struck the Himalayan region of Tibet in southwest China has risen to 126, the Chinese authorities announced on Sunday afternoon.

More than 1,000 houses have been destroyed. Rescue teams are searching for survivors under the rubble and distributing blankets and other necessities to those affected, according to Chinese state media.
