Cetinje massacre: Two children among 10 killed, gunman remains on the run
Ten people, among them two children, are killed in Montenegro, Cetinje, after a gunman opened fire following a bar brawl. After the bloody attack, the suspect, identified as Aco Martinovic, ran away and commited murder on at least two more locations.
Montenegro's interior minister Danilo Šaranović said four people were wounded in the attack in Cetinje, and that the children who are killed in the attack were 10 and 13 years old.
Special troops are involved in the search for Aco Martinović, and the military is also on alert. Šaranović has said that the suspect killed the owner of the bar, the bar owner's children and his own family members.
"At this moment, we are focused on arresting him," the interior minister added.
As he said, the suspect was wearing dark clothes and a black jacket when he comitted murder, and ran away by a vehicle.
"After a verbal argument with the people he had been staying with all day, there was an incident between him and another person. Martinovic went home, took a weapon, returned and committed the crime. He then left, but it is known so far that he committed murders in three locations," said Šaranović.
Police said that Martinović was prior know to the police.
"I would like to point out that this is a person who was given a suspended sentence in 2005. In 2022, his house was searched and an air rifle, weapons and explosives were found on him. He was sentenced to three months for this, he filed an appeal and the verdict was not final," said the police director.
President Jakov Milatovic said in a post on the X social media platform that he was "shocked and stunned" by the tragedy.
"Instead of holiday joy... we have been gripped by sadness over the loss of innocent lives", wrote Milatović.
