A 62-year-old teacher was seriously wounded in an attack at a Zagreb school on Friday.

Jutarnji List has unofficially learned that she was wounded as she tried to stop the attacker, a 19 year-old who has been arrested, from going after her students.

The teacher has worked at an elementary school in Precko for 18 years, and before that she was employed at another, in the village of Trnje. She specialized in computer science, and advanced to the status of mentor.

"A super nice, calm and composed person who worked very well with children," her colleagues say.

Jutarnji List has also unofficially learned that today is the last working day of the principal of this elementary school, who is retiring.

The wounded teacher is 62 years old and this is her last generation of students before her own retirement.

She is currently undergoing surgery, after which she will be placed in the intensive care unit.

The attacker this morning entered the school and started stabbing the teacher and students with a knife.

A 7-year-old child was killed, while five persons were injured, including three children and two adults. Among the injured is the teen attacker himself, who tried to commit suicide, but the police prevented him from doing so.
