Witnesses says van drove past closed level crossing gate: Miljan killed, his daughter and wife injured

Miljan T. (36) was killed in a collision between a train and a van this morning around 7 o'clock, while the doctors are fighting to save his wife and child (4).

The victim, who drove the van, allegedly tried to cross the tracks despite the level crossing gate being down, at was consequently hit by a train traveling on the Belgrade-Uzice line.

"The gates looked lowered to me but the driver of the van wanted to 'sneak through'. The train driver could not avoid him. The man in the van died instantly," says a witness of the tragedy in Rakovica.

His wife and daughter sustained serious injuries are were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

The accident happened this morning around 7 o'clock in the suburban Belgrade settlement of Rakovica.

The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office ordered an autopsy, but also that the police submit all the evidence from this accident.

Traffic is still blocked.
