Vesna, who lost both legs in NATO bombing trying to protect her baby, passes away

Vesna Stojkovic (55), who lost both legs as a consequence of the wounding in the 1999 NATO bombing of Serbia, has died in Vranje.

According to the family, Vesna died after a short illness. Over the past years, citizens of Serbia, via the "Budi Human" foundation, raised funds for Vesna's prostheses and rehabilitation.

This Vranje woman was seriously injured as she was protecting her baby with her body during an attack.

The shrapnel ended up in her body, and in the post-war years, due to complications arising from the wounding, both of her legs were amputated.

Vesna was laid to rest in Vranje. She is survived by her daughter, granddaughter and husband.
