KFOR refuses Pristina's request to send KSF to north after explosion in Zubin Potok

The NATO mission in Kosovo and Metohija has confirmed that institutions in Pristina, after an explosion in the Ibar-Lepenac canal in the Zubin Potok municipality, requested authorization from the KFOR commander to send the so-called Kosovo Security Forces (KSF) to the scene of the incident, but that this was rejected.

"The KFOR commander did not give authorization based on his security assessment and the actions that KFOR had already taken," said a written response to Radio Free Europe.

Pristina made this request based on an agreement from 2013 between the self-proclaimed institutions in Pristina and NATO, when then Prime Minister Hashim Thaci assured that KSF would not go to the north without prior consent of KFOR.

"As announced in our statement yesterday, KFOR deployed units to secure the damaged part of the watercourse in Zubin Potok, also provided additional assistance to institutions in Kosovo, including logistical support and for the removal of explosive devices," stated KFOR's response.

The mission added that the KFOR commander remains in contact with all the main partners and is monitoring the situation.
