Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic-Hadanovic has said that amendments to the Law on Energy, which will lift the moratorium on the construction of nuclear power plants, will be completed by the end of the month, that is, as soon as possible.

Djedovic-Hadanovic told RTS that President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic is someone who thinks strategically and long-term, and that the energy sector is guided by such policies as well.

On the occasion of yesterday's visit of a high delegation of Serbia, headed by Vucic, to Budapest, the minister said that joint work between Serbia and Hungary in the energy sector is very important.

"Cooperation with Hungary in the energy sector is of great importance and we want to strengthen it through joint companies or by investing in their internal facilities," said Djedovic-Hadanovic.

She stressed that any additional capacity will mean a lot in the future, because higher energy consumption is expected, both by citizens and the economy.

"The day before yesterday we had extremely large consumption. Any capacity we get is significant," she stressed, adding that development of artificial intelligence and a campus will also contribute to increased electricity consumption.

Djedovic-Hadanovic reminded of a project to build one-gigawatt solar plants, adding that it was very important to have new gas-powered power plants.

"This is something the president talked about in Azerbaijan. To provide as much of that basic energy as possible, so that we can also develop renewable energy sources," she said.

When asked if the increase in gas prices in Europe is any reason for fear, the minister said that we have about 500 million cubic meters of gas, which was our goal before the winter, and that we are storing gas in Hungary for a third year.

"This is why cooperation with Hungary is important, and it is also important for Hungary because it receives about 6.5 billion cubic meters of gas through Serbia and the Balkan Stream," said the minister.
