President of the Serbian National Assembly Ana Brnabic said today that she is sure that an investigation aimed at finding out who is responsible for the tragedy in Novi Sad - when 14 people died in a partial collapse to a railway station building on November 1 - is taking its course.

She added that the most important thing is to determine exactly who is responsible, rather than try to seek justice in the street, and politicize the tragedy.

She also assessed that 10 or 12 days is not too long a time for determining the circumstances of what happened during such an event.

"The most important thing at this moment, in order for this to never happen again going forward, is to determine exactly who is really responsible, and then for the judiciary to take ther case over and for the legal process to start. I don't like witch hunts, just to arrest and accuse the innocent. It's important to prosecute those who really seem to be responsible, and then the judiciary will decide what eveidence is there," Brnabic told TV K1.

She stressed that this is absolutely important out of respect for the victims and their families, but also for the sake of the entire country and the generations that will come after us.

According to Brnabic, things are are not moving in favor of the opposition (organizing the protests), and noted that one of its leaders, Dragan Djilas, was talking about the collapse of a bridge in Genoa, Italy, when 43 people died, after which more than 50 people were "immediately arrested."

"That is simply not true. In Genoa, the bridge collapsed in 2018. Four years after, the court process started. If you ask me, I think that in Serbia things must move more efficiently. Without putting any pressure on the prosecutors and the judiciary, I think that they are under obligation towards this entire country, towards all our citizens, to make it much more efficient," said Brnabic.

She pointed out that professionals must speak about that tragedy and that there are people who are much more expert than her regarding the issue, who should explain what happened.

"I'm simply against seeking justice in the street and against politicizing any tragedy. Because that's simply something that shouldn't be done. And citizens think alike. I said the same after Ribnikar, and Orasje and Dubona (mass shootings last year). Those things (politicization of tragedies ) are not done anywhere," said Brnabic.
