President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic is today taking part in the Climate Change Summit COP29, organized by the United Nations in Baku, Azerbaijan.

During a live appearance on Serbia's public broadcaster RTS, Vucic said that he had many bilateral meetings, including with President Aliyev.

"They are building power plants capable of producing one gigawatt of electricity, and if we could build one such power plant, we would solve the problem. There is a huge amount of money at stake for everything related to green energy... And now, during the summer, in August, we consume more than on St. Nicholas Day (on December 19, a major family patron saint feast (slava) in Serbia)... That was the day when the highest consumption (of electricity) was recorded,"  the president noted.

He also referred to pressing issues.

"That's the only thing people are interested in - there will be no increase of the price of gas or electricity."

Vucic added that thanks to an arrangement with Russia and Azerbaijan, Serbia is buying gas at a lower price.

Meanwhile, elsewhere the price of electricity will continue to rise, he said - "it will be a complete collapse in some parts of Europe, but we have to take care of ourselves."

Asked to comment about this year being "the hottest," the president said, "The drought 'killed' us this year," and noted the reduced corn yield, as well as localized floods.

When asked what he expects from the summit in Baku, he said it was a series of good bilateral meetings.

"My judgement was good, you can't use every tragedy to score political points," Vucic also said, referring to a protest in Belgrade held the day before, adding that people "are not idiots - and don't degrade them like that."
