Serbia and Albania to co-host 2027 European football championship
Although it has not yet been made official, there is no doubt that Serbia will co-host the European U-21 football championship in 2027 - together with Albania!
This can definitely be concluded after the statements made by the general secretary of the Football Federation of Serbia, FSS, Nikola Lazetic.
Namely, during the presentation of Aleksandar Kolarov as the new head coach of Serbia's youth (U21) national team, it was made clear that all the focus is on working with players, because Kolarov will not have the burden of leading the team through the qualifications (namely, host(s) participate directly).
"We have agreed cooperation (with Kolarov) until the end of the European championship 2027, which will largely take place in our country. We are optimistic about this," said FSS General Secretary Branko Radujko, while Lazetic was perhaps even more specific:
"Kolarov will have two and a half years without the huge burdern of qualifications, because we will be the hosts."
In May, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic referred to the possibility of this tournament being held in Serbia and in Albania.
"We will continue to develop the (sports) infrastructure, and we plan to, together with Hungary, apply to organize the Olympic Games. Just as with Albania, we can apply as co-hosts for the European Under-21 championship - the opening ceremony would take place there, and the closing one in our country."
