Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric attended today in Bucharest the ceremony organized to open the new building of the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Romania.

The head of Serbian diplomacy, welcoming the guests, stated that with this symbolic act a new page was also opened in bilateral relations, which in the past have always been friendly and based on partnership.

Recalling that diplomatic relations between Serbia and Romania were formally established 145 years ago, but that diplomatic relations existed for several decades before that, Djuric pointed out that the closeness of the two countries and peoples is additionally confirmed by dynastic ties from the past.

"The new premises of the Embassy also have a symbolic significance, because they show in the best way what our ambitions and plans are today. I would like to us gather here for the many years to come, during which our relations will also progress. May the Serbian and Romanian peoples and our two countries continue to prosper together and respond to all challenges together, as we have done in the past," Minister Djuric said.

The official reception at the Embassy was also attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Luminita Odobescu, who said that the two countries should jointly continue to develop traditionally close ties by improving them through specific projects.

"When we think about Serbs and Serbia, we think about you as neighbors and a good friend, but it is also a challenge because now we have to work together to show that we can do even better," said the head of the Romanian diplomacy.

According to her, a large number of joint projects are planned that will further strengthen the ties and cooperation between the two countries and peoples.

Ambassador of Serbia in Romania Stefan Tomasevic informed the guests about the history of the building where the Embassy of Serbia is located, the reconstruction of which was recently completed.

Tomasevic thanked everyone who participated in that job, and said that Serbia is proud to be able to present the new premises of the Embassy, where the old splendor of the building dating back to the beginning of the 20th century has been successfully restored, thus preserving the historical ambience of central Bucharest.
