Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said today at the meeting of the European Political Community in Budapest that the EU should change its strategy regarding the entire Western Balkans, as well as Serbia, and make strategic decisions on enlargement issues.

"I think we should discuss strategic issues," stressed Vucic, who was among the six main speakers at the opening of the meeting.

He remarked that allowing Romania, Bulgaria, and some other countries to join the EU when they did was a political decision.

"It was a political decision made by the EU at a time when strategic decisions were being made, and there were people who were thinking strategically. That's how we see it. You say - alright, some countries are doing ever better. And, Serbia's economy is the strongest economy in the Western Balkans, according to all criteria. Yes - but we (the EU) don't need Serbia. Because Serbia did not impose sanctions against Russia, or for any other reason, they didn't solve some problem," said Vucic.

He added that Serbia is not the only one with problems and that it did not create all its problems by itself.

The president continued to say that Serbia remains on the EU path and is a loyal partner to the bloc, as well as that Europe needs a strategic conversation in the new circumstances.

He thanked Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban for making sure he addressed the gathering - Vucic was the only politician from the Western Balkans that spoke. This was not the case during the last meeting, when no one from the Western Balkans had the opportunity to speak.

"It is not easy for me to express a different opinion on all issues, but I will do my best to be as honest as possible in these circumstances. I believe that instead of repeating and repeating the same messages, we need a real strategic conversation between all of us sitting here, and some others countries", said the president of Serbia.

Vucic added that the world has changed and will continue to change, but that we in Europe are still living in the past, not accepting that change and repeating same old platitudes.
