Batut Institute: 62 West Nile fever cases registered in Serbia, 21 in this city

The Institute for Public Health Batut has announced the current epidemiological situation regarding the West Nile virus in Serbia.

"Based on data submitted to the Batut Institute until October 7, 62 autochthonous cases of West Nile fever in humans have been registered. The reported cases are in the territory of the City of Belgrade (21 cases), South Backa (nine cases), South Banat (six cases), Danube (five cases), Mid-Banat (three cases), Sumadija (three cases), Srem (three cases), Macva (four cases), West Backa (two cases), Branicevo (two cases), North Backa (one case), Raska (one case), North Banat (one case), and Kosovo (one case) districts.

Out of the total number of patients, 42 are male, while 20 are female. The average age of the patients is 59.

Four cases of West Nile fever with a probable place of infection outside of Serbia have also been registered, namely: two cases where infection took place in Greece and one each in Croatia and Montenegro.
