Djuric: Serbia actively cooperates with international partners in the fight against terrorism
Foreign Minister Marko Djuric has said that by participating in the ministerial meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, Serbia once again emphasized the importance of the fight against global terrorism, as well as complete commitment to the eradication of terrorism, which represents a serious threat today.
"It is particularly important that Serbia actively cooperates with international partners through intelligence, security, military, and police channels to combat the global terrorism as a threat," Djuric told reporters in Washington.
The head of Serbian diplomacy said that for Serbia, terrorism is not an abstract and distant threat, but something that, unfortunately, has been present in our region for decades.
"As we know, from the territory of our country, that is, from our southern province, (Kosovo) a large number of terrorists joined ISIS, and all this put together represents more reason to cooperate with international partners in the fight against this global problem," said Djuric.
He added that the meeting represents another step forward in joint international action to deal with terrorism.
On the sidelines of the meeting in Washington, Djuricmet with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands Caspar Veldkamp, and on that occasion expressed his belief that in the coming period, Serbia can significantly improve relations with the Netherlands.
A large number of Dutch companies operate in Serbia, employing around 15,000 people, which contribute significantly to our economy, Djuric said.
"I presented the economic and development chances and potential of Serbia. We also talked about the political and security situation in our region. I think that cooperation with the Netherlands can bring us a lot in terms of new technologies and in general the quality of companies that come to our country from there," said the minister.
Djuric added that the Dutch support for the EU path is extremely important for Serbia, and that Serbia is a country that takes the reforms it implements very seriously, but primarily does so for its own sake.
"We come to the European table, not with an outstretched arm, but as a country that is developing solidly, strongly and quickly and that can play a very significant role in the wider region, with a healthy economy, with people who are oriented towards knowledge in science, with value and commitment to the future," concluded the head of Serbian diplomacy.
