Cyclone "Boris" hit central Europe and caused flooding. Large rivers across Europe overflowed their banks and poured into cities, and water levels also began to rise in the region, including in Serbia.

Yesterday, the news came that that near Bezdan, the Danube had already flown over a part of its riverbed and reached the homes and businesses located along the bank.

In this area, the Danube reached the depth of 580 centimeters yesterday, which is still far from 700 (7 meters), the limit to declare emergency flooding protections.

However, the state meteorological authority RHMZ is warning that the water will continue to rise in the coming days.

RHMZ said on its website that the peak of the wave is expected near Bezdan on September 25, and will then reach the town of Apatin on September 25/26. By September 26 it will be in Bogojevo, and a day later in Novi Sad.

Owners of weekend homes along the Danube have already prepared, moving valuable items to higher parts of their houses, while many fear the water will destroy their property. But the authorities stress that there is no reason for that.

"All available capacities of the Sector (for Emergency Situations) are ready to react if necessary. I am primarily referring to the firefighting-rescue units, i.e. the specialist water rescue teams of the Sector, in order to respond in a timely manner if there is any danger from torrential watercourses, and if we have to evacuate and rescue the population," Milos Milenkovic, assistant head of the Administration for Firefighting and Rescue Units of the Sector for Emergency Situations told Tanjug.
