Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic is in New York, where he will on Tuesday address the participants of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Last night he spoke at the Summit of the Future, touching on several important topics.

"I am very happy to be attending this important summit about the future. I will not take up your time by quoting the comic book hero Alan Ford or saying that it is better to have peace and cooperation than war and conflict; that it is better to be healthy than sick. Also, I do not want to repeat empty stories about respecting the norms of international law, because international law is only applied to the small and not very strong (countries) and only in situations when they are not under attack by the big ones. Still, when it comes to the most powerful countries, it's incredible how much lies and hypocrisy is being used to brutally trample on the rules of the United Nations, and above than all, peace. Pace is more important than anything anything today, but no one sees peace as a significant value. On the contrary, all the powerful ones, justifying their big policies, speak of a just peace, which means that they would should win, while others should not only lose, but be completely destroyed."

"All the actors, without exception, will refer to the norms of international law when those go in their favor, and they will deliberately forget what they themselves have done and what they are still doing today. They will be reminded of this by other big (countries), who will also forget all those wrongdoings (of their own), but will be able to come up with endless examples of violations of international law by the other ones. Serbia supports the UN secretary-general's plan. We support the Pact for the Future, despite having our objections as well and that we would like to see more compromises in favor of the developing nations, as well as for the big western countries to better understand the needs of the small ones. All five themes are important for us: Sustainable development and development financing; Science, technology and digital cooperation; and transforming the global governance - but what kind of financing for development, the position of young people and sustainable development can we talk about when we have major regional conflicts in the world and tensions in which almost all the major world powers are involved?"

"When it comes to the objections, Serbia supports the request of the Group of 77 developing countries, which includes the People's Republic of China, and so we believe that financing the problem of climate change should be a separate issue and not part of development financing. We believe that the United States and the European Union will be more understanding regarding the reform of the existing financial architecture. We also believe that the objections of Russia and Brazil, that the issues of climate and climate change are more related to security, than to development, are serious and deserve attention. Serbia believes that it is very important in finding a balance between the Western point of view on the rule of law on the one hand and the demands of numerous countries on the other hand when it comes to family and traditional values".

"Human rights are one thing, and their abuse and exaggeration leads to the destruction of traditional conservative societies, which many countries around the world cannot accept, especially when it comes to family values, which the Republic of Serbia also fosters. Serbia is on its EU path. Unlike many, Serbia respects the norms of international public law. At the same time, Serbia is a modern country, but it is not ready to sacrifice its own traditional values and will resist external attempts that the so-called 'Woke' movement is imposing as the highest possible value and as a state that, supposedly, we must achieve in the future. Thank you very much!," Vucic concluded his address.

The two-day Summit of the Future as held at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York, as part of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, which is an introduction to the general debate of on Tuesday that Vucic will also address during the second plenary session.

Otherwise, several meetings were planned within the two-day summit to discuss improvement of the global system for current and future generations, the strengthening of multilateralism for the sake of international peace and security, a common digital future, the transformation of global governance and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

During his stay in New York until September 27, President Vucic will have bilateral meetings with more than 40 world leaders.
