President of the National Assembly Ana Brnabic said today that there is no greater threat to the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija than Albin Kurti.

Brnabic was on Pink TV when said that she could not understand why some media write that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic is to blame for the arrests of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija.

"It is extremely important for me to underline that I do not think that any Serb at any time was a greater threat in Kosovo than Albin Kurti. The most important issue for us is the issue of Kosovo. And are they (Serbs in Kosovo) to blame for Kurti's rampage? They are not. And those are saying that it is Vucic's fault that Kurti is arresting Serbs in Kosovo. That is not the case," stressed Brnabic.

She said that Kosovo was never a topic for the opposition or the former government, adding that in 2001 they released (Albanian) terrorists from prison, and then in 2004 they allowed the pogrom of the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija, as well as the burning of churches and monasteries.

Brnabic added that the secession of Montenegro in 2006 was a condition for Kosovo to declare independence, and that the state acted at the time as if it was relieved.

According to her, only five years after Pristina declared independence in 2008, the issue of Kosovo and Metohija returned to the agenda, when SNS came to power.

She stated that all major Western powers, before SNS came to power,  had recognized Kosovo as independent and transferred the issue to the EU, while the government in the meantime set "a border" between Serbs.

"It wasn't until 2014 that Aleksandar Vucic became prime minister and then president, that the fight began and countries started to withdraw their recognition (of Kosovo)," said Brnabic.
