Alarming statistics: More fatal accidents from April to July than in the same period last year
The total number of traffic accidents resulting in deaths in the second quarter of this year was higher by 7.2 percent compared to the same period in 2023, and the number of those happening in settlements resulting in injuries was 7.9 percent higher, the Serbian Statistical Office (RSZ) has announced.
Statistical data also shows that the number of people who died in traffic accidents in the second quarter of 2024 is higher by 1.8 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while the number of injured people outside settlements is higher by 2.9 percent.
The number of pedestrians killed in the second quarter of 2024 is 19.2 percent lower than in the same quarter last year.
RZS data also shows that during the second quarter of 2024, out of the total number of road motor and trailer vehicles produced this year and registered for the first time, in relation to the total number of registered vehicles, the most represented were vehicles with trailers (54.2 percent), while new passenger cars ranked last (13.9 percent).
During the second quarter of 2024, an increase in the number of almost all road motor vehicles registered for the first time, mostly buses, can be observed, while agricultural tractors and work vehicles registered for the first time recorded a decrease.
According to RZS, the most numerous brands of passenger vehicle in is observed period were Volkswagen, Skoda, Audi, Opel and Peugeot, while the most represented trucks have a payload of up to 999 kilograms, and the largest number of these vehicles use diesel as fuel.
Statistical data shows that the most recent passenger cars on the roads are vehicles with an engine size of up to 2,000 cm3.
In percentage terms, the representation of vehicles with gasoline as fuel is higher than those with diesel.
