Trifunovic: Kurti's cunning game of presenting harassing of Serbs as a rule of law issue
A member of the Advisory Board of the Pupin Initiative from the US, Ivan Trifunovic, said today that Prime Minister of Pristina's provisional institutions Albin Kurti is playing a "very cunning game" and that he is presenting the harassment of Serbs as an issue of the rule of law.
He told Tanjug that Kurti applies the rule of law selectively, because some decrees apply 100% to Serbs, but not to Albanians.
"We have many examples there. We were in Gorazdevac where people who have modest incomes of 150, 200, 300 euros per month, suddenly received water bills for the last 25 years in the amount of 2,000, 3,000, or 4,000 euros, and when they weren't able to pay, their property got confiscated. Of course, no Albanian received such a water bill," Trifunovic said.
According to him, this type of mistreatment is at the level of apartheid, but what is happening now in Kosovo is ten times worse.
"So, permanent double standards are being applied, and it is very clear that this whole policy is aimed at making the life of Serbs so miserable, that they simply cannot survive in Kosovo and Metohija anymore and that they have to move out," he said.
Trifunovic added that the US embassy is trying to help the Serbs and to intervene as much as they can, but as he said, "an independent Kosovo is a long-term project of America."
"I would compare it to a situation where you have a child, your own baby, who suddenly became brazen and mischievous. And now they have a problem of what to do with Kurti. I think they are kind of taken aback with all of Kurti's moves and now they somehow find themselves in the dark because they can't exactly find a way to calm the situation," Trifunovic thinks.
According to him, all this is happening now because Kurti is very nervous about the success of Serbia's foreign policy and turning towards the West.
"We see it now in Croatia as well. They cannot stand the fact that French President Emmanuel Macron will come to Serbia and that agreements are being signed. They cannot stand the fact that Serbia has the best economy in the region and America simply has to correct its policy and to somehow reason with its baby," he said.
Trifunovic added that the number one priority for the US is to have peace and stability in the Western Balkans and for that to be strengthened in the long run, because they do not need any problems in Europe.
