Milicevic declares open "Days of Diaspora in Medieval Capital of Serbia" - Krusevac

The minister without portfolio in charge of coordinating activities and measures related to the Diaspora, Djordje Milicevic, was in Krusevac to declare open the event "Days of the Diaspora in the Medieval Capital of Serbia" - which brought together 130 members of Serb cultural and artistic associations from five countries.

The minister thanked the young people for making sure the Serbian language, the Cyrillic script, our culture and traditions are alive in the countries where they live.

"I am glad to see you gathered in such numbers today here in Krusevac, one of the most historically significant towns in our country. I will not welcome you, because one welcomes guests. You are never guests in Serbia, in Serbia, you are in your own country, Serbia is your home, wherever you are, and will always embrace you with open arms," his ministry quoted him as saying

He said that he is proud that the event in Krusevac is one of a total of 22 thematic camps, which were organized throughout Serbia this summer, bringing together around 5,000 young Serbs from the Diaspora.

"These camps provide a unique opportunity for our children, regardless of where they are growing up, to get to know their culture, tradition, language and art. In this way, together we build bridges that unite us as a people and make us one and inseparable community," said the minister.

Representatives of cultural and artistic associations thanked the minister for the support he provides in preserving the Serbian identity in the Diaspora.

They pointed out that the summer camps are very important, and that there is a growing interest among children in the Diaspora to travel to Serbia for these camps.

The opening of the event yesterday in Krusevac was also attended by the mayor, Ivan Manojlovic.
