This is blood-curdling recording of call received by firefighters: "House is on fire, children are inside!"
The 193 call to help a six-member family inside a house on fire in the Salajka settlement of Novi Sad was received by local firefighters-rescuers at 2:43 am (from a neighbor), the conversation lasted 52 seconds, and Telegraf obtained a recording of that conversation.
A minute after it ended, the cameras installed at the fire station recorded two fire trucks with nine firefighters on board exiting. Five minutes after the report, at 2:47 am, city surveillance cameras recorded the passing of the fire crews, 200 meters away from the scene.
The firefighters arrived at the scene at 2:48 am and found that the dwelling of about 50 square meters was on fire. The fire was localized at 2:53 am, and these claims are evidenced by a video posted below:
- Good evening. The house caught fire. The house is on fire, the children are inside!
(Firefighters) What's the street?
- Djordja Dere, number 28
(Firefighters) Novi Sad?
- Yes, Yes, Novi Sad, just please, the children are inside.
(Firefighters) Which part of town?
- Salajka.
(Firefighters) So the house is on fire.
- Yes, yes, the house.
(Firemen) Can you go outside?
- We are here, outside, and the children are inside, please.
(Firefighters) Alright, alright, we are sending a team (5 minutes later they were at the scene)
Unfortunately, Danijel A. (29), Maja S. (23) and their four children aged 2, 4, 5 and 7 were already dead.
Dacic reacts
Deputy PM and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic spoke about the case to say that the Novi Sad firefighters-rescuers arrived at the scene within five minutes of receiving a report that a fire had broken out in the Salajka neighborhood this morning, and that the allegations that the firefighters arrived at the scene after an hour are absolutely untrue.
"I ordered that full information about it be submitted to me and I was informed that by reviewing the 192 and 193 systems, it was established that the first fire report came at 2:43 am, on number 193, the conversation lasted 52 seconds and there is a recording of the conversation.
The police (number 192) received a notification from the Sector for Emergency Situations at 2:48 am.
Nine firefighters with two vehicles from the Novi Sad Emergency Sector put out the fire, and the police and public prosecutor investigated the scene.
Six people died in this terrible fire, including four children, aged between two and seven," said Minister Dacic and stressed that in such situations, empathy and respect toward the victims should be shown first and foremost.
"We have six victims in this fire, four of them small children. Let us not engage in speculation about alleged unprofessional behavior of the firefighters who, on the contrary, reacted quickly and professionally, immediately after receiving the report.
"This fire is a terrible tragedy in itself and the whole of Serbia mourns the tragic death of this family, and we should not divert the topic from them, but behave as befits this situation," said Minister Dacic.
Minister Dacic called on the media to, for the sake of truthful, reliable and accurate reporting, check all information with the Department for Media and Communications of the Ministry of Internal Affairs before publishing articles.
