Sapic congratulates gold winning water polo team: "You carried Serbia's name in best possible way"
The mayor of Belgrade, Aleksandar Sapic, himself a former professional water polo player, has congratulated the Serbian water polo team on winning the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Paris.
"The best defense played in the last ten years!" said Sapic.
"During the last seven Olympic Games, always a medal, of which three golds in a row! Water polo deserves much better treatment than it has in Serbian society. All the best, a deep bow to you. For the umpteenth time you have carried the name of Serbia in the best possible way. An enormous thank you," reads Mayor Sapic's message.
The Serbian water polo team has won the gold medal at the Olympic Games for the third time in a row, after a magnificent victory over Croatia, 13-11.
Serbia was not considered a favorite at these Olympics, despite two consecutive gold medals at the previous games. On the other hand, Croatia played excellently throughout the tournament and most experts predicted their triumph.
However, the Serbians had been playing their best game since the quarterfinals, after defeating Greece, then beating the United States in the semifinals and further raising the level, to then be the best in the final.
