This is police officer Nikola murdered by an Albanian near Loznica: He previously served in Gendarmerie

Nikola Krsmanovic (34) succumbed to his injuries in the General Hospital in Loznica, after he was wounded by Hajziri Artan (33), an Albanian from Kosovo and Metohija, who shot him and another policeman in Lipnicki Sor.

While getting out of the vehicle, Artan fired from a pistol, hitting officer Nikola in the chest and officer Vjekoslav Ilic (50) in the shoulder, after which he escaped.

Krsmanovic was a police officer with the SGP Trbusnica, having joined the MUP (Interior Ministry) in 2009. From 2012 until 2023, he was a member of the Belgrade Unit of the Gendarmerie.

The murder victim was not married and and did not have children. He is survived by his father, mother, and sister with her family.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said that one police officer was killed in Loznica last night, while another was seriously wounded.

The police found the suspect's passport at the scene, issued by the provisional institutions of so-called Kosovo in the name of Hajziri Artan (33), along with a German identity card.

"Last night, around 00:55 in Loznica, during vehicle control at the Lipnicki Sor checkpoint, police officers from the Trbusnica Border Police Station (SGP) stopped a Mercedes with Tutin (a town in central Serbia) license plates, in which two people were traveling," Dacic said.

While getting out of the vehicle, one person fired a pistol, hitting police officer Nikola Krsmanovic (34) in the chest, and police officer Vjekoslav Ilic (50) in the shoulder, after which he ran away.

Both policemen were transported to the Loznica General Hospital, where Krsmanovic succumbed to his injuries.

Strong police forces are intensively searching for the shooter. Officers from the Sabac Police Department, as well as the Criminal Investigations Police Directorate (UKP), the Border Police and members of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (SAJ) are all on the ground, drones and helicopters are have also been deployed.

The investigation led by the Senior Public Prosecutor from Sabac and members of the police is ongoing.

"I offer my deepest condolences to the family of the murdered policeman on behalf of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and on my own behalf," said Dacic.
