Serbian police issue advisory to citizens amid hellish heatwave: Here's what to do to avoid starting fires
The Ministry of Interior of Serbia (MUP) has issued an adivsory to citizens and instructions on how to react in the event of a fire breaking out.
Watch out for your safety and the safety of others. High air temperatures increase the risk of fire.
✔️ Check electrical installations regularly and avoid overloads. Your safety is a priority!
✔️ In the event of a fire breaking out, stay calm and immediately dial 193 to alert the fire department. Put out small fires safely if you can, but never risk your safety.
✔️ If you are in a high rise building, do not use elevators during a fire because of the danger of smoke and gases.
✔️ When there is a fire in one room, get out quickly and close the door to prevent the spread of fire and inform the neighbors! If the staircase is filled with smoke, stay in the apartment and protect yourself with wet cloths.
✔️ In case of fire, turn off electricity in your apartment and wait for instructions from the firemen. They will assess when it is safe to turn off the power in the entire building, in order to avoid risks in elevators and other parts of the structure.
✔️ Statistics show that 1,942 fires were recorded in residential buildings in Serbia this year so far. It is important to be aware of the risks, and the measures we can take to protect our homes.
