Serbian firefighters and their "red beast" Ka-32 help fight wildfires in North Macedonia: Aerial shots
Members of the Serbian Helicopter Unit and the MUP Sector for Emergency Situations who have been deployed to North Macedonia to help put out wildfires, dumped about 70 tons of water on an affected area, thus far flying their Kamov Ka-32 helicopter for a total of 10 hours.
Branko Popratnjak, a member of the team and a member of the Helicopter Unit of the MUP (Serbian Interior Ministry), pointed out that all members of the Ministry participating in this operation are making maximum efforts to extinguish fires in North Macedonia.
"The Ka-32 helicopter, belonging to the Helicopter Unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia, was engaged today at a fire site in North Macedonia in the Novo Selo region, which is located near the border with Bulgaria. Yesterday and today we worked for 10 hours in total and we dumped about 70 tons of water onto the area of the fire," said Popratnjak and added that the conditions at the site were complicated due to high air temperaturea.
"It's over 40 degrees (Celsius), but we will try to deal with all that and continue our work here in North Macedonia," said Popratnjak.
Serbia is helping its neighbor to the south because the North Macedonia government sent out a message asking for assistance in putting out the forest fires.
MUP's Ka-32 helicopter, an aircraft with a large water carrying capacity, has been sent outside the borders of Serbia to provide assistance to another state for the first time.
