Lightning causes death in Montenegro, Turkish construction worker dies, too: "Suddenly day turned into night"

Montenegro continues to be affected by a severe storm that has paralyzed the region. One person was killed by a lightning strike in Lustica, the police Operational and Communications Center (OKC) informed the MINA agency.

Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds tore down trees, ripped off roofs, destroyed beach furniture and slowed down traffic.

"Suddenly day turned into night. Then it started to rumble, the wind was so strong that it tore tiles from the roofs. Bricks were scattered on the street. Trees were uprooted and their branches were torn. Even an elementary school was damaged," Predrag Boskovic from the town of Niksic in northern Montenegro told RINA.

Heavy rainfall caused water to spill onto some roads in Podgorica, and in the coastal region.

"Trees were falling on one of the boulevards, traffic is collapsing," said Jelena Petrovic from Podgorica.

According to the latest information from the field, some basements and residential building have been flooded.

The press are also reporting that a Turkish citizen died at a construction site in Canj, during the severe storm.

According to Vijesti, the worker was operating a crane, which collapsed when hit by gale force winds.

The Primorski portal reports that the wind uprooted trees in the port of Bar and that cars were damaged. It is also reported that several vessels in the marina got damaged.

Also, the storm knocked down three cranes in the port and broke transshipment bridges.
