Vucic speaks in Brussels: "No meeting with Kurti, because Kurti didn't want or wasn't allowed to meet with me"
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic addressed journalists in Brussels on Wednesday.
"There was no meeting (with Albin Kurti). I'm going back, alone with Vukan (his son) which means I have to stay awake longer, even though he is no longer little. We've done a good portion (of work), especially in the morning. I want to inform you that there was no meeting with Kurti, because Kurti did not want or was not allowed to meet with me. The guy won't see me. He's not ready for a meeting with me. I wouldn't have gone all this way, but luckily this morning there was good news for Serbia, just as football can destroy your mood," said Vucic.
He added that everything went well during the bilateral meetings (with EU officials), which he said were successful.
"We talked about everything, the implementation of the agreement, the dialogue, the situation in Kosovo and Metohija. The main negotiators will most likely continue their meetings on Tuesday. So I expect a continuation and we have a lot of work to do. It's a difficult job for Petkovic, Milos, all our people who work hard. You wait for me to see whether I'm in a good or bad mood, and there are a lot of problems, a difficult position for our people in Kosovo. But we will continue to fight and protect the interests of Serbia and help our people as much as we can," added Vucic.
Earlier in the day in Brussels, Aleksandar Vucic met with EU mediators - EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Josep Borrell and EU Special Envoy for Dialogue Miroslav Lajcak, as part of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.
Vucic pointed out that Kurti always finds a reason why he is not in favor of something.
"What's basically important for us that we had good meetings this morning. I believe that there is room for the growth agenda that we are implementing through economic reforms. Inflation has now fallen significantly, but salaries must be higher for both pensioners and people in the private sector, fortunately the public sector is not lagging behind either. These are important things and important signals. I'm sure the EU will say who didn't want a conversation today. I believe they will have to say that there was no will from one side," said the president.
He also added that there is still work to do, that Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Petar Petkovic has a difficult job ahead of him.
"It is a difficult position for us. We will continue to fight and protect the interests of the Serbs and helping our people," he said.
Previously, both President Vucic and Kurti had separate meetings with Borrell and Lajcak.
In his earlier address, Vucic reiterated Serbia's commitment to searching for a compromise solution in order to protect the Serb people and normalize relations, and added that Pristina is unable to fulfill what it signed 11 years ago, which is the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities (ZSO).
